Have you ever wondered what the over-arching message of the New Testament writings is?
I have mentioned before how Yeshua taught that “this generation,” (that is, the generation of people that he was preaching to) would not pass until “all these things be fulfilled,” (Matt. 24:34).
But did you know that the concept of judgment falling on “this generation” runs all through Yeshua’s teaching? Look at this:
Luk 11:50-51: “That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of THIS GENERATION; From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, It shall be required of THIS GENERATION.”
Peter also, following the lead of his Master, preaches the same message on the day of Pentecost:
Acts 2:40: “And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from THIS untoward GENERATION”
The passage continues and says three thousand people were added to the growing group of believers due to the urgent message of impending judgment preached by Peter!
This is what the New Testament is all about: God sending Yeshua to save his people from their sins so they could be spared from the severe judgment that was about to fall on them for their rebellion and apostasy toward the truth of God’s revelation and his Messiah.
