Did Paul expect Messiah’s return in his lifetime?

I believe Paul expected Messiah to return in his lifetime. One of the passages that expresses this is:

Rom 13:11-12: “And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.”

This metaphor of night and day is lost if we extrapolate this “dawn” period between Paul’s night and day to be dragged out for 2000 years and counting!

The Bible makes much more sense if we simply allow the writings to speak for themselves, and we recognize the historical fulfillment of these passages in the Roman/Jewish war of 66-70 AD. Doing so should reinforce our faith in the Scriptures that they actually came to pass, testifying for all time to the faithfulness of YHWH in keeping his promises.
